Fun times in Room 16

We have had a busy few weeks in our room. Week 1 started off with book character assembly and we all looked great in our costumes. Here is a photo of us all.

Last week we had Grandparents day and World Cup sports. We loved having our grandparents in our room. The World Cup sports was fun too. We were very excited to hear that the All Blacks won the World Cup! Lucas was especially excited when he came to school today and he wrote an amazing story. This is what he wrote:

In the weekend I watched the rugby World Cup. The All Blacks played Australia in the final. The All Blacks won The Web Ellis Trophy. Dan was the player of the day. I felt happy because the All Blacks won. They are the champions for four years.
I am super proud of this effort Lucas.
We made up a poem for the All Blacks and would like to think it helped them win! Here is a video of us reciting our poem.

Week 7 in Room 16.

Today we showed our hats in assembly. We paraded up and down the hall so everyone could see our great protective hats. We also showed our beautiful happy daffodils. We wrote spring stories this week and we all think that Spring is a lovely time of year. This week we had a new teacher! We gave Mrs Evans animal body parts like a lions tail and mane, butterfly wings and eyes, long flamingo legs and giraffe arms. Check out Jonti and Anika's stories about Mrs Evans! Please come in and read the other children's stories.

Week 5 in Room 16

This week in writing we wrote about elephants. This was factual writing and we wrote what we had learned about them. Did you know that elephants live in herds and they use their trunks like we use arms. They can lift and carry things with their trunks and they can also hug their babies with their trunks. Check out our elephants in Room 16.  Next week is going to be exciting because we are making protective hats and we are going to have a hat parade on Wednesday afternoon. We hope you can come and see our wonderful creations. That's all for now, it's time for home.

Week 3 in Room 16.

Beware of the Pirates around Grey Main. They have probably come from Room 16! We are learning about protective hats this term and later on this term we are going to make a protective hat. It could be a sunhat, a hard hat, a wooly hat or any other one we can think of and make. Some hats are fun hats and today we had a bit of fun learning to fold a paper hat. When they were finished we thought we looked like pirates! What do you think? Here is a photo of us wearing our pirate hats. But the big question is, would it be a good protective hat?

Week 10 in Room 16

This week Constable Jos came to visit us to talk to us about keeping ourselves safe. We found out about different types of touch. He is coming back to see us next week too. Also next week St Johns will be vusiting us so we are looking forward to our visitors. Mrs Evans's son Cameron said he will bring in his microscope off us to have a look at. That will be fun.
This week we have been doing some painting and we finished our little bird paintings that we did with a sponge. We think they look really cute. What do you think? Mrs Evans has another great bird painting activity off us to do next week. I wonder what it is!

Week 8

Today we had some wonderful writing in our class and I want to share it with you. Some children wrote 4 ideas. Here are their stories.
Mia's story:
Yesterday I went to Christchurch to see my Grandma. My brother and I went to Chipmunks to play. I went on the guns. I found a bag and I filled the bag up with balls. Then I went to the gun  to shoot it.
Luke's story:
In the weekend I built a tool box. I got it from Mitre Ten. My Dad helped me build it. Then I painted it with lots of colours.
This is great work guys and I am proud of you. Keep up the great work.

Week 7 in Room 16

It's been another fun filled week in our classroom this week. On Tuesday it was St Patricks Day and Mrs Evans told us that it is an Irish celebration. We learnt about the pot of gold at the end if the rainbow and that if you see a leprechaun they will grant you a wish. We haven't had any luck finding one yet! For writing on Tuesday we gad to write about what we would wish for if we found one. We made rainbows and wrote our wishes on them. Jayko wished for a puppy, Lucas C wished for an insect catcher, Luke wished for some chocolate, Mackenzie wished for a swimming pool and Emily wished for a ballerina box. Come in and see our rainbows. They are hanging up and make our classroom beautiful. To carry on the rainbow theme, on Thursday we made a rainbow in a jar! We layered different coloured liquids and they didn't mix. We thought it was like magic! Here are some photos of our rainbows.

Week 6 in Room 16.

This week we were learning about the letter b. We made bears and decorated biscuits with icing. Yum, yum. We presented in assembly today. We shared our plants because we are scientists and are finding out all about plants. We know they are living things and can tell you what they need to survive. We have been observing and classifying. Come in and see our wall display. Next week we will show you a video of how we get ready to learn in the mornings. We move our bodies and get our brains ready to think.
Here is a photo of Lily and Mackenzie hard  at work decorating their biscuits.

Week 5 in Room 16

This week we had three new children join our class. That means we have 16 children in our class now and there arm order to come before the end of term. We welcome Mia, Lily and CJ to our class. Already they have shown that they are going to be great Grey Main Learners. Today was exciting when our field turned into a swimming pool becaus of all the heavy rain. We thought the classroom might float away if it kept raining! Here is a photo of the big puddle outside our classroom.

Week 3 in Room 16

We have had another busy week in Room 16. Some of our writers managed to write two ideas with very little help from the teacher. This means they are well on their way to being independent writers. Way to go guys! Read their stories below.

Today we had our swimming sports at the Aquatic centre and it was great fun. We walked to the pool and back to school. It was a long way back in the hot sun. Who can you see having fun in the water?

Week 2 in Room 16.

We have had another great week in Room 16. Jonathan started school and is showing us he is a great listener. We had a visit from Constable Bryan and Bobby who told us why ignoring is important to wear a seat belt. We had our photo taken with Bobby too. On Friday we walked down to the Aquatic Centre to see the big trucks, roller and digger working. They are making a sports centre. At the moment there is a very big hole there! It was really hot. When we got back to school Mrs O gave us all a banana ice block. Thank you Mrs O. We have lots to write about next week.
